This morning started with us taking a 40 minute train ride to Rotterdam. It was kind of chaotic since the first train we got on was canceled and we had to get off and get on another. I enjoyed the ride over as I got to read. After that, we headed to check into a&o Hostel as we will spend the night here.

Next, we went to a floating farm which is literally a farm floating on water. The concept is very interesting and uses sustainability in many ways compared to a traditional farm. We got to actually go into the floating farm which has multiple levels. The highest floor is where the cows are fed and kept. They get fed with donated food from local companies in the city like bread along with grass. Also, they get fed brewery grains from the local breweries too. The company gives back to the community by filtering cow waste and turning it into fertilizer and selling it. This process makes the company different from a traditional farm and makes it more sustainable. The floating cows get fed differently everyday compared to a normal cow who eats grass all the time. Afterwards we got to taste test the different types of milk and cheese they offered. Another interesting fact about the floating farm is they have floating solar panels which cool down faster by being on the water and produce more energy.

Additionally I got to walk around the city of Rotterdam and enjoyed a nice cafe latte from a local shop. Along the way we passed a school and its playground. It was nice to see what it’s like for the average life of someone living there. Then we went on a fancy boat cruise which was nice to see the whole city and the industrial aspects of supplies being shipped in. After that, we all had dinner at this Mediterranean restaurant. From the decorations to the plates, they were all nicely decorated and showed off the culture. The food was really good. Overall I enjoyed my day here and look forward to going to the museum tomorrow to learn about the history of Rotterdam.
