Prague day 5 !!!! And we are going back to school for the day! The day began with a walk over to Charles University, where we learned more about Old Town along the way and why an incomplete building exists within the bustling square. Once we arrived at the University, we started the morning off with another lesson about the history of Prague and the Czech Republic, however, we focused a bit more on the language aspect and how the Czech language formed overtime. That lesson finished off with learning a bit of Czech, and it was very difficult to even try and say the alphabet. So many of the sounds are like nothing I have ever heard before (because of really only studying Romance languages), but it was still a great experience and plenty of fun to try and sound out all the words.
After our first lesson we went to lunch at Cafe Louvre and it was AMAZING. Great lunch for very cheap, so I would definitely come back here. Soup was under 4 dollars, and a slice of delicious chocolate cake was about the same price as the soup! If we have the chance I would definitely come back here for lunch again.
Our second lecture of the day revolved around learning the evolution of Prague manufacturing and exports, from silver mining to planes. It was very interesting to see the shift from a traditional mining country, to a thriving manufacturing country for all sorts of machines (automobiles, military vehicles, and planes). Even though I am not the most interested in history, I still found this transition to be interested and I feel as though I got something out of the lecture.
The day didn’t stop there though, after our second lecture we decided to head over to the Pilsner Beer experience where we got to learn about the history behind the making of this famous Czech beer, as well as its importance to the Czech people today. I absolutely loved this experience and thought it was sooo worth it for only about 20 dollars. The day continued with more learning throughout various museums around Old Town Square, and we just had the best time exploring.
To end the night we had a group dinner at a traditional Czech restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious. I got the beef goulash and I can confidently recommend it to any who visit Prague in the future!! Cannot wait for more amazing days to come
Until Tomorrow,
Emma
