I think today was my favorite day from my trip so far. We took a bus traveling through Kilkenny to Wicklow, and finally Glendalough. Each stop we made had its own unique feel and offered different attractions to enjoy. For example, Kilkenny was home to several medieval structures including a castle, round tower, and cathedrals, in addition to a nice shopping mall and plenty of good food. Wicklow had to be one of the most beautiful places I had traveled to in recent memories. The mountains and pastures we saw provided exquisite views and an overall feeling of serenity. Our guide was able to elevate the experience of each stop with his clear knowledge and understanding of the land and shared many anecdotes relating to each location. As I mentioned in a previous blog, Dublin holds its own special charm among other cities I have visited and is certainly quite enjoyable as well, however the natural topography and rural atmosphere of Wicklow connected with me on a deeper level. It seemed to me that the air was much lighter outside of the city. Just when I thought our excursion had reached its peak, we continued on to Glendalough where we visited a sheep farm run by a charismatic man named Richard. Here he showcased his land and imparted his wisdom acquired from the generations his family had been raising sheep. We even got to see a demonstration of his border collie at work herding the sheep in fantastic fashion. It was truly wonderful to witness.
