After a nice late start to the day, we left at 9:40 to go to Munich! I was extremely excited to get to see a larger German city – the third largest in Germany. We took the train for the first time, which was pretty cool. After getting to Munich, we exited the train station and went to meet our tour guide, who was a friend of Dr. Feick. As we arrived at Marienplatz, the massive Neue Rathaus came into view, which was an amazing sight to see.

You could also see the old Rathaus on the other side of the plaza. The architecture of the German cities is very interesting because many of the buildings were bombed during World War 2, so it consists of many new buildings with a few old ornate buildings scattered around. It also does not have high rise buildings throughout the main part of the city like in most American cities. Instead, there were mostly 5 ish story buildings with the occasional tall tower and then higher buildings, such as the BMW headquarters, further away from the main part of the city.
On our tour, one of my favorite stops was seeing the English garden. It was very pretty and was organized in an organic way, which was very cool. We also stopped at a river running through the city that has a large wave in it that people could surf on, which was awesome to watch. I would love to come back and surf on it someday. The tour was amazing and we learned a lot about the city and its layout.

After the tour, I went and got curry wurst at a street stand, and it far exceeded my expectations.

After eating, we went and climbed a bell tower that had an amazing view of the city from the top. We could even see the Olympic facilities and BMW headquarters from there! After escaping a German lady trying setting us up with her daughter, we made it back down and got gelato.

After that, we shopped for a while and continued exploring the city until dinner. Before meeting for dinner, Evan, Ryan W and I participated in some sort of meditation thing in the Marienplatz. They gave us little free gifts as well. Other members of our group were a bit skeptical that we might have accidentally joined a cult, however. We went to a ham burger place for dinner where I got a goat cheese, fig, and fried egg burger that was phenomenal.

We rushed back to the train station and barely made the train back to Augsburg. I’m finishing this post up on the train right now. Tomorrow, we go to Dachau which will be super interesting to see.
Auf Wiedersehen!
