Authentic German Breakfast and Forvia

Today we had an authentic German breakfast called Weisswurst. This means a white sausage breakfast that usually comes with pretzels and beer but we only had pretzels. Since I’m a vegetarian I had pretzels and cheese which was very good. I was surprised to see so many people at the breakfast as it was a Thursday morning and I thought they’d be at work.

After breakfast, we took a quick break at the hotel and then we went to Forvia for a company visit. Forvia is in Augsburg so we just took the tram there. The Forvia visit started off with a tour of their factory. We had to wear lab coats which were cool. At this certain factory location, they are making parts of exhaust systems for a lot of different high-end car manufacturers. A big customer of theirs was porches. They were also making car parts for tractors and parts of sound systems.

After the factory tour, we had a presentation about the company and about its future plans for the company. Forvia as a whole mainly makes seating, lighting, and clean mobility. They talked a lot about how they are going into the hydrogen storage and hydrogen fuel cell industry. I thought that this was very interesting as galvanic cells was my favorite unit in chemistry this year. They talked about how they are focusing on making fuel cells/hydrogen storage devices for big veichles like trucks. This way there is enough space for the tank.

I think that forvia is not going to get hurt too bad once everything is electric veichles. They are a large company and they are mainly focusing on seating which electric veichles need. The factory that we saw today will definitely need to change as they are making car parts for ICE cars. They re probably in the same place that grob is and both companies should be fine when the switch is made. Forvia is definetly more similar to hoerbiger as they are making parts of cars and not machines to build cars.
