Day 8

Today the blog will be short. The group and I left around 9am to go to the concentration camp known Dachau. We had a tour guide who was very intelligent on the matter and explained all of the history and horrible things that happened in Dachau. Below are a few pictures of this camp. If one does not wish to see images that are heartbreaking, please do not view anymore.

Although the camp was a very hard sight to see, I do believe it was an important experience in all of our lives. If we do not learn from our mistakes, we are bound to make them again. Instead of simply reading about the horrific events of the Holocaust, we got to see it. There was also a lot of information me and the group were not too familiar with. The whole group was very respectful, engaged, and handled themselves well. I appreciated this and I am sure everyone else did as this was not an easy experience.

After we finished this visit, we took the bus back and my final presentation group and I all met up to discuss the logistics of our presentation. I actually stayed back after and explored Augsburg a little on my own and studied here as well. I realized after this how much I could see myself abroad here for a semester. I also realized I needed a break and some personal time as this last week has been crazy fun but also very busy. Especially after today, I needed some reflection time. I headed home and cleaned up my room. Then I called my mom for Mother’s Day and my sister Jenny for her birthday. After I relaxed by watching some TV and went to bed.
