Sunday in Dublin

Last night we had the opportunity to go out and explore the Dublin night life a bit more. We spent some time at a bar called O’Reilleys, and then headed to a nightclub that was having latin night. After dancing for a bit, it was time to rest up for this mornings activity: the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum.

I love a good museum, and this one did not disappoint. The experience was very interactive, with screens and games to play, and a passport to stamp at each stop along the way. We learned a lot about various historical figures that all share Irish heritage, and the way that Irish emigration has impacted communities around the world. One thing that I found interesting was the strong connection between traditional Irish music and American country music. Another point that surprised me was learning that some Irish men empathized so strongly with the Union during the Civil War that they formed an entire Irish brigade in the army.

My personal favorite part of the museum was an exhibit on infamous Irish people throughout history, such as Machine Gun Kelly and Typhoid Mary. This section also included an interactive “whodunit” game in which we could guess based on a series of hints, which Irish person had committed the crimes described.

After the museum we had a chance to walk through the city for a bit and try some more local cuisine. Irish people sure do love their mayo!
