Day 9 already? Today was another early start to the day since we needed to take a 2 hour bus ride to Regensburg, Germany. Regensburg is famous for two main things. The first thing is that Regensburg wasn’t damaged by WW2, so a lot of the buildings have been here since the Roman Empire. The buildings that I saw and walked in felt really memorable because these buildings have been here for longer than I can count. The second famous thing is the towers which are built throughout the city called Golden towers. During the Middle Ages, these towers were built by rich families to show off their wealth. Now, these buildings are used by the University for student housing. These buildings look really cool, but I also find it equally funny that rich families would just keep building towers to show off their wealth. It is very interesting distinction between a United States historic city versus a German historic city. The oldest buildings in America our only 3 centuries old, so it would have a colonial style to them. Even though this is old, it isn’t very old in a history point of view. However, German cities have existed since the middle ages and so the buildings are a lot more historic. The fact that Regensburg even had bricks from the Roman empire made it such a fascinating city to go to. If you love historical sites or history in general, I highly recommend walking through Regensburg.

After this, we made our way to Walhalla (pronounced as Valhalla). This museum was built by Ludwig the 2nd and this was built as Ludwig the 2nd wanted to make more art pieces in Bavaria. Walhalla is designed after Greek architecture and has Greek style sculptures on the inside. These sculptures depicted various Bavarian people, including a statue of Ludwig the 2nd. This building was absolutely stunning and beautiful. The fact that this building was built during the 1500s and replicated Greek architecture is absolutely mind stunning. If someone showed me a picture of the building and I couldn’t see the fields behind the building, I would assume the picture came from Greece. It’s really interesting that royal families, like Ludwig the 2nd, wanted to create more art. Even though this was a bit narcissistic, since there was art of him, it still leaves a beautiful museum that has been seen by people for centuries.

We ended the day by having dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant (which it was my second time going to) called Rice Bar. Here I got fried rice with chicken and vegetables mixed into it.

I can’t believe tomorrow is our last guided tour before our presentations. It still feels like I just got here.
