Another laid-back weekend day for the Argentina study-abroad babes! For our casual day, we began by enjoying a tour of the Museo Evita, a museum honoring Eva (Evita) Peron, the wife of the country’s former president- Juan Peron. Eva is honored for being an actress, activist, politician, and philanthropic influence on Argentina. She cared greatly for its people and focused greatly on advocating for woman’s suffrage in the early 40s. The museum illustrates various points of Evita’s life beginning from her first ever Halloween dressed as a bee, up to her early death from cervical cancer at 33. Within the building, there remain many replicas of her dress attire from her early broadcasting days, pieces from movies, and her First Lady era. All in all, Evita was an early feminist baddie who used her honor for innovation, not fame. This museum was gorgeous inside and I loved the feminine feel as you walked deeper and deeper into its halls. We then had lunch together in their outside eatery area. They served this amazing pasta with a creme brûlée type dessert. Argentine cuisine steadily awes me, even museums have top tier lunches!

After Museo Evita, we made our way over to Parque de la Memoria. This memorial is an honorary park along Rio de la Plata, to remember the “lost” people of Argentina that disappeared during the war from 1976-1983. There remain four walls listing over 30,000 names of folks who were victims of this catastrophic event. The victims’ ages hold a wide variety between late teens to late 40s, however, the youngest I saw was only two months old… I held a moment of silence for them. The river flowing next to us connects to the Atlantic Ocean and is known as the widest river in the world… what a sight.

To end my day, I and the girls got takeout from Saigon Noodle Bar- a Vietnamese dinner establishment- and went back to the hotel for a dinner and movie night! One of my goals for this trip was to try new things and this is one of them. I enjoyed the amazing Saigon bowl that consisted of fried egg, cilantro, pineapple, peanuts, beef, and rice! I would never get a combination like this at home but I couldn’t let the opportunity pass by. I loved this meal more than I imagined I would. You will see me returning there this week to try Pho for the first time! Please anticipate another Saigon meal review soon!
