My Magical Day in Munich

Today was the first day where we did not tour any companies. Instead, we got to spend the day in Munich! We started on the later side (around 9:30 am), which was so nice when it came to our hours of sleep. We took the train to Munich, and when we got there we were so fortunate to have a tour of the beautiful city. It is crazy to see how history all across Germany connects, no matter what city you are in or visiting.

I learned that Ludwig was a very popular name when it came to Royals or anyone who was in high power. For example, Ludwig the Bavarian was the duke of Bavaria at a certain point in time, and in the picture below, you’ll see him holding out his hand. His hand being put out represents him asking for taxes.

Walking around, we saw several more buildings, and we even stopped at the original Hofbräuhaus tavern!

Close to the end of tour, we were able to see the Glockenspiel a few minutes past noon. The life-sized wooden figures move about three times a day, and we were able to see the whole “show”. It seems like it was quite a big deal as the plaza was filled with both locals and tourists to watch the Glockenspiel.

We also got to see some people surfing in the river! It was a very cool thing to see first-hand, but all I could think of was geez that water must be freezing!

After our tour concluded, we had some free time! The girls and I got lunch at this really yummy thai place. I got a chicken pad thai, as well as some spring rolls.

My friend Lauren and I separated from the group and got to explore Munich a little more. We wandered into what looked like a castle, but then we got lost in a courtyard. It made me feel like I was in a movie in Italy for some reason, because the minute we stepped into the courtyard, it got very sunny. On top of that, Lauren pulled out some sunglasses, and we were sitting on some benches just relaxing… but really we were just trying to figure out where we were.

Post-wandering, we went into stores and looked around. We also walked through a little festival that had people on roller-skates, bikers up in the air, and food all around. It truly felt like I was in a movie with everything that was going on. Then, the group all met up for dinner at Hans im Glueck (a hamburger place). The hamburgers were very delicious, and still managed to feel healthier than the ones in America.

After dinner, we took the train back to Augsburg and the station was full of people going in and out. After the 30 minute train ride, we finally arrived back in Augsburg and had the remaining afternoon to ourselves to work on our presentation slides. I ended the day by eating some snacks in bed, and going to sleep.

Talk soon!
