A Couple Yellow Fruits

The supply chain of bananas, pineapples, and coffee all differ from each other in complexity and process. Bananas are usually harvested before they are ripe because they ripe in the shipping process, while pineapples are harvested when they are ripe and begin the fermentation process once harvested. If they are shipping the fruits the supply chain process is usually harvesting the plant and shipping it compared to the complicated process of coffee plants. The coffee beans need to be prepared and fermented before the shipment process.

The two farms we visited today aimed to protect the environment with organic farms, not using pesticides and other chemicals. They also protect their workers by creating multiple streams of income through the tours in their farm. This protects them from a possible disaster like the pandemic from having to lay off all of their workers. Other problems on these farms are trying to combat the insects and pests organically. The pineapple farm uses plastic and hand digs and harvests every plant to protect the plants. The banana plants grow multiple plants so it is no a mono crop farm and helps add nutrition to the soil as well as collecting compost.

If I had to choose to work on one of the farms it would be the pineapple farm solely because of the taste of that fresh pineapple. Around 35% of the pineapples are not able to be shipped, which would leave a lot of pineapples that I could consume. That taste of the pineapple was one of the best fruits I have tasted.
