Today we went to Neuschwanstein castle near the Alps. It was only about an hour and haft drive there. As we got close, we could see the castle from a far. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. It was a big castle I just thought it would be bigger from the pictures that I’d seen before. When we got to the town at the bottom of the castle we went to lake. It was gorgeous and huge. The only bad thing was that you couldn’t see all the mountains because it was rainy and foggy. After we saw the lake, we started the hike up to the castle. On our way up there were horses carrying carriages which was cool. The rain wasn’t bad at the beginning but once we got to the top, we were all soaked. Even though it was a little cloudy there was still a great view of the castle and mountains at the top.

We had some time before our castle tour, so we continued to hike up to a bridge to see another view of the castle on the other side. When we got to the bridge there was a waterfall on one side that was stunning. On the other side was the castle. Even with all the fog you could see the castle and it was a breathtaking view. On the other h and the bridge was not breathtaking. There were a lot of gaps in the wood, and I did not think the bridge could hold up for too much longer. After that we hiked back down to the entrance of the castle for our tour.

The castle tour was very quick, and we couldn’t take any pictures. My favorite rooms were the throne room and singer’s hall. I thought it was cool how the floor in the throne room was all mosaics. I also thought it was funny how the throne room didn’t even have a throne because Ludwig died before he could make one. I liked singer’s hall a lot because decorations were beautiful in it. I also liked how there were paintings everywhere in the castle that were stunning. After the castle tour we braved the rain/cold and went haft way down to eat lunch at a Hofbrauhaus. I had some delicious warm kaesespaetzle. It warmed me up a lot to get ready for the descent down the mountain.

After the castle visit, we dried off on the bus and headed to an old church that served as a pilgrimage for catholic people. The church kind of sat in the middle of nowhere in the lovely German countryside. It was not as big of a church as I thought it would be but there were beautiful paintings on the ceiling. There was also no stained glass and only clear glass windows which I thought was cool because you never see churches without stained glass in them. After we visited the church we headed back to Augsburg for the day to finally be completely dried and warmed up.
