Coo-Coo for Cocoa

The relationship between coffee and chocolate is that both are natural stimulants but if you eat enough cacao beans, you can produce serotonin. Between Café Britt and Sibö, they both source their products from local Costa Rican plantations to keep the tradition alive of using their own products. In addition, they both do tours to attract tourism and have an additional source of financial success rather than just selling and exporting their products.

Sibö unfortunately faces some challenges in the fact that they are a small business. When being in a small business in a competing industry, it is difficult to keep control of the market and promote themselves like known name brands can. Their challenge is how they can get people to know about their product and how to promote themselves on social media to meet a wider variety of an audience. Another difficulty relative to being known is how will you get people to try your product with a completely different name when brands like Nestle and Hershey are right next to it.

Today we were able to learn about the history of the chocolates and it was interesting how they told the history as if it was a story. They were engaging with how they spoke to us and they even used pictures; throughout the story we were able to try different types of chocolates that were relative to the point in history. Their approach with marketing and tourism, and their dedication to promoting the planting of cocoa trees of Costa Rica shows their passion towards their job.

If I had to choose, I would work in the pineapple industry because it is a source of lots of exportations so it would be lucrative and rewarding.
