If I had one day left on earth and got to choose any way to spend it, my day would look pretty similar to how it did today. We started by going to Sibo Chocolate Factory, a local small business that makes high quality chocolates. There, we learned about the history of chocolate while trying samples of some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had. It was really interesting to learn about how chocolate originated, and how types of chocolate are different from each other.

Coffee and chocolate are somewhat similar in their production process. They both come from beans that need to be shelled and processed. Then, there are several different ways that both of these beans can be produced to complete very different products. They are also similar because both of these beans are stimulants, so when drank they provide similar effects.
Like the other products, the chocolate supply chain faces several risks. One big risk that this company in particular faces is the issue of succeeding as a small business. Since they are small, it was hard for them to start up and compete with other existing giants like Britt. Especially as a company who really values sticking to what they believe in, it was difficult for them to succeed while staying true to their mission. However, they have proved that it is possible to have a company with sustainable practices and good morals and still be successful.
Even though Sibo and Britt are widely different companies, they still have their similarities. For one, they both had engaging tours. They kept us engaged as an audience which increased our interest and enjoyment. They are also both currently trying to widen their global reach, as they’ve both recently opened up online shops to ship their products to other countries.
If I were to start a business exporting a Costa Rican tropical crop product, I would probably choose chocolate. I really enjoyed today’s tour, and it wasn’t only because of the free chocolate. Their mission resonated with me, and I would like to do something similar. I also think my life would significantly improve if I had free high quality chocolate at my disposal every day, so this really is the only correct option.
