Lowes on steroids…

Today we headed to Medochemie which is a global pharmaceutical manufacturer. This company was the company that I researched so I had prior knowledge. We met in a large conference room where we heard from some speakers on the company. A key takeaway from the presentation was that they care about providing at a low cost to consumers. They are not a large scale pharmaceutical company in terms of having the resources to create new drugs or vaccines. All they focus on is manufacturing. I liked that they didn’t seem so profit orientated like you might see in the United States. They had nice facilities, modern and open. They also showed us their warehouse where they had storage capabilities unlike I have ever seen. It was almost like Lowes with large storage shelves, however they were better. The rows of shelving were all organized into lettered corridors. They were all electronic and could be moved by the touch of a button. I was amazed to see this level of sophistication in their warehouse. The machines they used were also electronic and the people driving them made it look like a seamless operation.

After Medochemie we travelled back to Limassol for a lunch break. I ate a cajun shrimp penne pasta which was delicious. Then after lunch we headed to Columbia Ship Management Company. I found the visit interesting as they seemed really technologically advanced. They even have a company app called Crew Connect. The app allows people to stay connected and close to the Columbia family. I found this nice as they have 282 ships around the world. They showed us the Performance & Optimization Control Room. They handled emergencies in the room which was cool. We saw their digital map of the ships and even their paths with room for deviation. An alert would go off if a ship were to stray off the path, which I found interesting. I learned a lot today and I liked both of these visits.
