Day 12: I never knew concrete smelt this bad

Today was one of our last days in Cyprus and instead of everything winding down, we were right back into another day of multiple business visits. Our first company visit was to Vassiliko Port & Vassiliko Cement Works. While here they told us about the various products they create including cement and clinker. Clinker is one of their main exports and is made primarily of clay and limestone and made by heating up both until they are fused together. Clinker is one of the main components of cement creation. Cement is created by combining clinker with certain additives like that of gypsum. Vassiliko produces Type I and Type II cement. After our presentations they took us on a tour of the cement plant and showed us their port connected to it. Here they explained how they are a supplier in the Supply Chain and export to consumers around the Mediterranean.

After our visit with Vassiliko, we made our way to Zygi where we would have fish Meze. I wouldn’t say this was my favorite meal on the trip, but it was definitely the most interesting. Here they brought out all different kinds of fish and seafood from mussels, baby crab, cuddle fish, prawns, squid and all other types of seafood. After lunch we had about an hour of free time before we headed back to the bus to head to our next business.

MSC is the largest ship management company in the world and manage 500+ ships worldwide. In our lecture with MSC their most apparent message to us was trying to cut down on emissions. They told us that they are trying to fit all their current ships with new technology that will reduce total carbon emissions of a vessel. MSC also told us that they have the worlds largest container transport ship in the MSC Irina. After our lecture they had us cut an MSC cake and threw a party for us which was pretty funny overall.
