Day 10 in Argentina! This morning we had to be in the lobby at 8:10am to get on the bus to visit Sanatorio de los Arcos. We had a talk from Dra Marcela Travaglini, a Medical Manager at the private clinic. After this we went to a cardiovascular clinic called ICBA to talk to their Medical Director and Head of Nursing about their private specialized clinic. It was very interesting to see such a small clinic that is so advanced and very modern looking. It was like something from the US and they had very advanced practices that I thought were cool. We then bused back to the hotel to have an hour break for lunch, where I got a Poke Bowl. After lunch we got back on the bus to go to Museo de los Inmigrantes with the group. The building was the original hotel and the history goes back hundreds of years. It was very informative and eye opening, in good and bad ways. After that we were free for the day and could do what we wanted. My friends and I did some last minute shopping and enjoyed one of our last nights together.
Today’s topic of interest is mutualism. Some philosophical benefits of joining a mutual are that it promotes mutual aid and love of neighbors. It’s about helping others and knowing that if you help me, I help you. Mutuals help those in need and it creates a mentality of graciousness and selflessness. Some practical benefits of joining a mutual are that they are cheaper than regular health insurance. You aren’t paying copays, deductibles, or any of that. Murals are solely pooled money that is accessed by individuals in need at vulnerable times. They are also non-profit so practically they are more consumer based and there are no tricks or catches.
