International Student for a day

For our splendid Monday, we started with a transfer to the University of Nicosia to hear a few lectures. The first lecture we heard was a brief introduction to block chain and crypto assets. The professor gave lots of analogies to twitter and email and how they relate to block chain. He also fielded questions about the future of crypto assets and where the industry will be in the future. We got a nice little coffee break before our next lecture, letting everyone get refreshed.

Our second lecture was about data forecasting. The speaker had a good sense of humor and was able to crack a joke and a smile when tech issues arose. He spoke on how technology has impacted data forecasting in a strong way and also showed how the automated forecasts have actually been more successful then the human predictions.

Our last lecture was about Data statistics. This lecture spoke briefly about the collection, modeling, and analysis of data. The lecture had really strong visuals and gave more insight into the data science industry. As a business major, data science collection and modeling is a strong skill to learn, so I was very intrigued on the topic.

Before we headed to the labs, we stopped for another great lunch at the block on the UNIC campus and once again it didn’t disappoint. I got grilled chicken with chips (fry) and a drink.

To conclude our visits, we headed to the UNIC labs to talk about the pharmaceutical industry. We got to see a process on the making of tablet drugs through a pill press. This was really cool. While we were at the lab, we also got to see some scorpions, a sea cucumber, and starfish. We talked about the process of pulling peptides out of these proteins to develop new alternative skin care methods as well.

Today was a day full learning and academia, but was a great insight to some great topics.
