Cruising: Netherlands Day 11

Today started with a nice hearty breakfast in the generator. I had a chocolate croissant, toast with strawberry jam, some scrambled eggs, and some juice. Today we met our guide at 10:30 and went on a tour of the business school for University Van Amsterdam. We received a tour of the business school from two current business student. One thing I found very interesting about this school, is that all of the different building for the different majors are in different areas, as opposed to how Pitt is where you could really have a class in any building no matter your major. The biggest thing was the tuition cost though, for our guide, he said that his tuition was only 2000 euros and for an international student it’s only about 10000 euros per year, not even per semester.

One nice thing about school in the states though is that we have guaranteed housing as first year student and typically second or third year also if you don’t decide to live off campus. Our tour guide said for 3 months after his initial 1 year lease was up, he was essentially homeless and had to commute 3 hours to school each day. The Netherlands are Currently going through a housing crisis, which is why it is so hard to find housing that is affordable. After the tour, we got lunch in their cafeteria (which was much fresher than ours) where I got a good meal courtesy of CIEE. After that, we met back up and went on another cruise, however this one was through the canals of Amsterdam. It had an audio tour that described the history of some of the buildings we were passing on a daily basis at this point. After the cruise, we went around and did some souvenir shopping and some more shopping at another vintage flea market. Thankful for the late start tomorrow so I can sleep in.
