Hey everyone! I can’t believe this is my last blog post 🙁 Today is day 12, our last full day before we hop on the plane tomorrow night. For a little summary on what we did yesterday (for my invested family/friends who read these posts everyday), we went to an Obra Social called ASE to learn more about the foundation, Medife. It was a very interesting lecture and we even got some breakfast pastries, beverages, ham and cheese sandwiches, and drawstring backs with some items inside. After that, we went to a Wellness Private Corporation and learned about the importance of the training program with the nurses. They were so incredibly nice there, surprising us with a catered lunch, desserts, a musical performance while touring, and alfajores!! We then went to MALBA, which is a well known art museum. This was one of my favorite museum visits we went on, and we got to see art from famous artists such as Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol! Fast forward to today: our presentation day! Not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous but I think it went very well!
This trip was an amazing experience, and I learned many new things. The major thing I learned is all about the Public Healthcare sector!! The way that the healthcare system is put together (the three sectors) is very interesting to me, and I learned about many challenges that face the public sector, such as the lack of primary care specialists and poor infrastructure. The program definitely made me want to continue to pursue a global health certificate! Aside from educational, I also learned more about myself. I will not say I am completely confident, but I learned how to put myself out there. Since there is a language barrier here, I learned that I just have to go for it and try my best, even if I mess up.
Now for some fun experiences/memories! There are so many memories that I made with new friends, and most of them I wrote other blog posts about, but I will try to summarize some! First, was the ranch trip! This was such a fun experience and allowed me to jam-pack so many fun activities into one day such as: biking, archery, a tractor ride, and eating so much meat lol! I will definitely miss the food here: the medialunas, alfajores, and steak are unmatched. For those who know, I have taken a medialuna almost everyday on the bus with me after the hotel breakfast, and I will definitely miss that tradition! Speaking of food, some of my favorite memories have involved it. One time, a huge group of us walked (wayyy to much) just to try an Argentine McDonald’s: it was worth it though. Additionally, trying Mate with Salma, Tori, and our two Austral friends, Maggie and Santiago, was a pretty memorable experience that I will not forget.
Overall, this trip was so much fun and I made so many memories and met so many people that I will never forget. Before coming, I was really anxious because I know I’m a shy person, so I did not think I would be able to click with anyone or even find anyone to go to dinner with or do fun activities with. Shoutout to some good friends (pictured below) that I spent a lot of time with on this trip, from our long lecture days to our fun dinners at the mall food court. Everyone in this group has been so nice and I am excited to reunite again or even have small conversations upon seeing each other on campus. It feels like we knew each other forever even though we just met formally two weeks ago. This has been an incredible opportunity for me and I am so grateful for it, and I also wanted to thank Grant, Lynnea, and everyone else who made this trip possible.
Tomorrow, before the airport, we will be doing a tango class, which I am very excited for!! Looking back at this post…I may have written too much (sorry), but, I have enjoyed writing these blog posts, and now that I can’t say “I’ll be back tomorrow”, it’s time to sign off. Bye!!! 🙂
