Community at FoodCloud

Hi guys! Today was the last full day in Ireland, I wanted to embrace the last pieces of Ireland before saying that final goodbye. Today was also our last site visit of the trip. At 1:15 we started our journey to FoodCloud which was a lot longer than I had anticipated. We took the tram (which is almost like an above ground subway) across the city about 30-35 minutes before we starting our 26 minute walk to FoodCloud. Once we did get to FoodCloud we were greeted by our speaker and host for the day. He had us sign in and gave us each a blue vest that said FoodCloud on it.

After checking everyone in we went to their break room where we watched a short presentation on what FoodCloud does and how they are helping the communities in Ireland. In short FoodCloud takes all the excess food from local distributors and re purposes them to charities and food shelters. I think what this company does and what they stand for is amazing. It is refreshing to see an organization looking to help those in need. FoodCloud makes themselves a part of the community by helping local stores and disturbers get rid of their surplus of food and they are also helping those in need who don’t have a lot of food and gives it to them. They are sorta like the middle man getting food from one place and taking to it the next.

I think what makes FoodCloud’s business model so successful is because they have a mission to help people while also not letting extreme amounts of food go to waste. This business model is very admirable and people are willing to do anything they can to help support this business and their mission. The most innovative aspect that I saw was when they have food that cannot be repurposed they will have food trucks or they will make something unique with all the food to try anyway they can to repurpose it and not let it go to waste. I thought that was really smart and creative as they never wanna waste any food at FoodCloud.

After FoodCloud I went back to Stay City to do a little packing and then we had our departure dinner. It was a sad yet tasty goodbye, the food was really good I really enjoyed the dinner but the speeches and goodbye was sad to hear. I had a lot of fun this trip and even though I was ready to go home I am still sad about leaving this beautiful city behind.
