Medochemie is a multinational pharmaceutical company. Its mission is to provide affordable medicine for everyone. The company has offices all over the world in 20 different countries. Medochemie has nine manufacturing plants in Cyprus and three other ones in differing locations. The company has a vast target audience and reach. For example, it has almost 300,000,000 customers around the globe. As a student in Global Management, I found its international reach to be impressive and something that I want to learn more about. I was excited to see what this company had to say because narcotics is one industry that naturally has a place in international business. I also found it interesting to learn about how particular trends in modern culture can affect the Supply Chain. For example, Medochemie talked about Ozempic, which is an injectable drug that helps balance blood sugar and insulin. Ozempic became extremely popular due to its ability to help people lose weight. It was interesting to learn about Medochemie’s struggle with the rise in demand and maintaining an efficient inventory so that people who truly need the medicine can get it.
Later in the day, we visited Columbia Ship Management (CSM), which is mainly responsible for managing distressing damages or problems that befall a boat and its crew. The company helps keep specific vessels on their set course and intervenes when unexpected deviations occur. The experience of visiting this company was different than any I had before. Their operations and goals were different from other companies I have met with in the past. I found it particularly fascinating to learn about the quota and measures of sustainability in the Supply Chain. The employees taught us about a scale system that measures the level of emissions a ship gives off and the different ranks of punishment that occur when a crew exceeds the acceptable level. This helped me to understand the current steps that are being taken to reduce the environmental harm caused by the shipping industry.
