What a Wild Ride!

Friday, May 19th

Friday was probably my favorite day of the entire trip….psych. Friday consisted of leaving for the airport at midnight and boarding our first flight out of Larnaca at 3:30am, everyone’s dream start of the day. The first flight was 4 hours, but it felt like 12. I could not sleep and the flight attendants were especially chatty. Safe to say I was very exhausted when we landed at the Frankfurt airport with just enough time to get on our next flight to Chicago. This flight was close to 10 hours, which is officially the longest flight I have ever been on. It was honestly not bad at all, I slept for around half the trip and breakfast on the flight was actually pretty good. After a comically long customs line and going through TSA yet again, the last leg was an hour and a half flight back to Pittsburgh. Everything was going so well in terms of travel and we had no issues for the entirety of the trip. I should have known it was too good to be true because although we landed safely in Pittsburgh, my luggage did not. Somehow it did not get on our last flight and was still in the Chicago airport. Everything was fine the next morning when it got delivered to my house, but let me tell you…at that moment I was panicking.

Although the travel day was not very enjoyable, it gave me a chance to look back on the trip as a whole. One thing I realized was how much I loved having a guide to teach us about Cyprus’s history and give us a deeper meaning to what we were seeing. Without Demetria, the murals we saw would just be pretty designs and the tombs would just be cool rock carvings. I can honestly say that after two weeks I feel like I have a really good understanding of Cyprus and I have seen so much of the island. If any future Plus 3 Cyprus students are reading this blog, just know it will be the best two weeks of your life. I have absolutely no regrets and despite the occasionally boring company visits, the trip was absolutely amazing.
