Building a Network

Today, we heard from a speaker about networking at Griffith College. We learned a few techniques and how to use them to expand our network. I think two of the most universal networking techniques are preparing ahead of time and having a good online presence. He emphasized how to create a more professional LinkedIn profile as well as how to ask good questions and important techniques like listening. For me, I have always been told about how to present myself and the things I should or shouldn’t say but I never was really told how important it is to focus on active listening when networking. It seems like such a basic concept but I feel as though when in the middle of networking nerves and excitement make you focus more on what you are going to say next rather than what the other person is actually saying. After today, I want to focus more on my LinkedIn profile and how to ask better questions while networking. Overall, hearing good networking tips is always useful as I look to start my professional career.
