So many castles

Today we visited a couple castles. We started with the Kolossi Crusader Castle. The castle was really cool and had great views from the roof. There was a spiral staircase that went up two floors. The staircase was really skinny so it was easy to get dizzy on. The castle used to be a lot bigger. It was built by the French but then got taken over by the Ottomans. The Ottomans destroyed a lot of the castle. It can be easily seen which parts of the castle were changed by the Ottomans. Also the destroyed parts of the castle are still really cool.

After the castle we visited Kourion Ancient City.  The ruins of this city are really interesting. The whole city was destroyed but parts can still be seen. The floors of a lot of rooms were still partially there. Those rooms for the most part, it was able to be figured out what they were used for. There were some bathrooms and living rooms. There was a giant Amphitheater that is still used for shows today. I love the ideas of amphitheaters because for the most part no seat is better than another. The whole stage can be seen from every seat. Also they are just aesthetically pleasing.

We then went on a tour of Limassol castle. We walked by this before on a tour but it was closed then. This time we were able to get in. The castle was amazing. It was so intricate with many different small rooms and many different hallways. The castle was huge. Throughout the castle there are many different artifacts that were found. The stone work for the castle is also really impressive. There was a skeleton that was dismembered found at the castle and there is a placard next to it explaining what historians believed happened to him. There were drawings all over the castle’s walls, all telling different stories. The views from the roof of the castle were also amazing. I could not imagine living in a castle. Having all of that space would be awesome. I know in this lifetime I will never live in a castle but I can only think about how cool it would be.
