Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Matthew Mihm. I am currently a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh where I am majoring in Finance and Marketing. I am from Wexford PA which is about 25 minutes north from Oakland. At Pitt I am currently the Vice President of Pi Kappa Phi and am a member of Pitts Student Venture Capital Club. On campus I also participate in intramural basketball and soccer. I am one of five in my family and have a twin sister named Kara. This past summer I worked for my uncle’s contracting business, and I also caddied at a nearby country club. This Summer I will be interning at Sterling Wealth Management in Pittsburgh starting in June.

Germany Plus-3

I am super excited to be able to study abroad this May in Augsburg Germany in the Pitt Plus-3 Program. I have never been to Europe before and felt that studying in Germany would be a great opportunity to see Europe and experience the culture. In my family I have strong German roots and even have family members that live in Berlin. I believe that I will be able to get a lot out of this trip both professionally and also from a culture perspective. Ever since I have been a kid, I have been fascinated by cars, and I am eager to learn more about the automative industry in Germany. I am super excited to visit Audi and see what their operations look like in person.

Another reason why I am super excited for Germany is to meet and learn from German students. I am very interested in learning different skills and values that German students share. I also think it would be a great opportunity to create new relationships. I understand that being in Germany for only two weeks makes this challenging, however I believe that it is still enough time to make some meaningful connections with people from across the world. Who knows when I will be back in Germany and having a contact never hurts! I am also super excited to try authentic German food and compare it to traditional German food in the US.

Overall, I believe that this trip will be an eye-opening experience for me, and I am eager to hop on the plane on May 4th and get started!
