Hi! My name is Femi Iluyemi! I am a sophomore in the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration. I am double majoring in Finance and Business Information Systems. I spent this past semester working on a consulting project in Trinidad with other students in Pitt Business. Also, I work for the Financial Technology Lab in CBA as an intern. Outside of the classroom, I am a member of two clubs: Women in Business and the Roberto Clemente Multicultural Business Association. Additionally, I am tax preparer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free access to tax professionals to complete taxes for international students and middle to lower class citizens in Pittsburgh. Professionally, I work part time in a personal care home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I spent all of last summer in a course to complete my certification. However, this summer I have plans to be an intern in the Financial Services department for a company in Chicago. Also, a little fun fact about myself is I am teaching myself to play piano and to speak Spanish.
The Plus3: Germany program is a two-week trip to Augsburg to learn about business and supply chain operations in the automobile industry. I aspire to study aboard for a semester, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a taste of traveling academically for a shorter period of time. I am excited to have the privilege to attend the trip this year and I know it will be extremely beneficial to my professional, academic, and personal development. One reason for choosing this program is I strongly believe I will grow professionally by working with university students in a different country. This will provide me firsthand experience in this branch of business, while also showing how business operates in a different culture. On an academic level, I have already learned so much about Germany as well as the automobile industry and this is just the beginning! We will be fully immersed in the culture of Germany while also learning about an industry I know little about, which is an incredible opportunity. Personally, I believe this will help me hone my skills in teamwork and cross-cultural communication. We will be networking and collaborating with students who have grown up in a completely different academic environment. It will be interesting to navigate the challenges that may arise from this. Overall, in participating in this program, I hope to complete it knowing more about Germany, its people, how business transpires across cultures, and myself.
