About Me
Hello! My name is Luiza Weissmann and I am a first-year bioengineering student in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. I am also a student in the Fredericks Honors College, and am on the pre-medical track and hope to be a pediatrician one day! I am from a town called Fox Chapel, which is about twenty minutes from Pitt’s campus. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, skiing, cooking, attending sports games, and I love traveling. I am apart of several organizations on campus: American Medical Student Association, Chi Omega Fraternity, Society of Astronautics and Rocketry, and Biomedical Engineering Society. I am also currently involved in a lab within the physical therapy department where I process and interpret CT scans to measure fat infiltration of muscles in the lower back.
The Netherlands
The Plus3 program I chose was to the Netherlands. As mentioned above, I love traveling and would have loved to explore any of the countries Plus3 had to offer. However, as soon as I saw Plus3: The Netherlands was an option, I was quick to put it as my number one choice. My father always tells me stories of his time visiting the Netherlands and how Amsterdam is his absolute favorite city he has ever traveled to. He marvels at the customs and kindness of the people he met there and I wanted to experience this for myself. I have also never been to Europe and am so excited to explore a new country!
I hope to gain knowledge on how engineering is practiced in a foreign country and how culture shapes processes by speaking to different professionals in the field. I am excited to tour different companies and learn how they operate on a local and global scale and see real world application of what I have learned in my engineering classes so far. I hope to expand my skillset in communication and networking, as well as get a better idea of what my future would look like as an engineer. I also hope to immerse myself in the culture of the Netherlands by visiting historic sites such as the Anne Frank Museum, art galleries, and eating traditional foods. I am so excited to build a strong relationship with my peers and professors throughout the trip and make unforgettable memories.
