About Me Personally:
Hello! My name is Hiwot Wisotzkey, and I am a freshman from Lancaster, PA. I am one of the youngest of five siblings, so I find that I tend to thrive in fast pace and chaotic environments. I grew up playing soccer and running track, but I stopped my junior year of high school and found a passion for working out outside of sports. I love lifting, running, swimming, and attending spin classes! I have also been a lifeguard since I was 15 at the pool I grew up going to which has been a really cool full circle opportunity in my life. In my free time, I like to hang out with family and friends. I am also a big TV show watcher. My favorite show of all time is One Tree Hill, so if you haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend!
About Me Professionally:
As an honors freshman at the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administrations, I plan to dual major in Marketing and Finance with a minor in Economics and a certificate in Public and Professional Writing. I do not have a specific career path in mind, so I hope that internships will allow me to explore my options and find something that I am really passionate about.
Outside of the classroom, I am a member of the club Strong Women, Strong Girls. Each week, groups of students from the club go into different elementary schools in Pittsburgh and mentor third through fifth grade girls, by teaching a lesson centered around female empowerment. I have also recently been hired for a BUS10 Teaching Assistant position and a Resident Assistant position. I am extremely eager to get started in the Fall with both of those roles and see where they take me!
Plus3 Vietnam:
This summer, during the first two weeks of May, I will be going to Vietnam with a cohort of students, Dr. Banerjee, and Stephanie Spirk. While we are in Vietnam we will be interacting with students and staff from the University of Economics and Finance. We will also be going on different site visits focused on globalization.
Vietnam was my top choice because I wanted to pick a location that I would never have the opportunity to go to again. I also want to be surrounded by a culture that is so different from mine because I believe that will result in the most personal growth, cultural competence, and cultural empathy which are all extremely important skills for any future career I have. While in-country, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of globalization through the cite visits and I hope to foster relationships with the Vietnamese students. Those relationships will help me gain the most knowledge about Vietnamese culture. Lastly, I want to learn more about the history of Vietnam, especially the War, but from the Vietnamese perspective.
