Hello! My name is Ashley Stelnik and I am from Phoenix, Arizona. I am currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing with the goal to earn my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I am also in the Frederick’s Honors College and also pursuing a certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. At the University of Pittsburgh, I am also involved in Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program. I have volunteered ever since I was little with several different programs that center around kids and teens. In my free time I enjoy volunteering, baking, singing with the Treble Choral Ensemble at Pitt, exploring cities (especially Pittsburgh), hanging out with friends, and trying new things. In the future I hope to be a labor and delivery nurse and possibly work in geriatrics as well.
Plus3 United Kingdom
I am very excited to study abroad this May and I know it will be a great experience. I will be going to Birmingham in the UK and can not wait! On this trip, I am very excited to visit Birmingham City University (BCU) and see how the healthcare and education system works in the UK. I think that it will be very beneficial to speak with students and other members of the community to hear their perspectives. I have a large interest in the maternal and perinatal parts of health and I would love to dive deeper and ask questions about the differences between the health and education in both countries. I am also very excited for the other landmarks and events that we will be doing and seeing. I am excited for high tea, going to London to see Mamma Mia, and just visiting the city in general. Also, I am very excited for the Florence Nightingale Museum because I think the history will be extraordinary and I think that I will really enjoy it.
I am looking forward to hearing about the differences between the healthcare and education system in the UK vs. the United States. I think that it will be very helpful to learn the difference because it will allow me to help make a difference in the future. I think that it will also be very helpful in getting me started for clinicals and when I become a nurse. I will forever be able for this opportunity that will help me with my future. I am also very excited to get close with everyone on the trip and explore the city with them. Not only will this trip be very educational, but I think that it will be a fun and great experience socially. I think that it will be very fun to go out and see the culture that Birmingham has to offer. I am very excited to meet new people and get closer with each other on this trip while learning so much! See you when I get there!
