Our first full day in Costa Rica exceeded my expectations! In the morning we explored Heredia, and in the afternoon we visited a popular shopping mall.

I was particularly impressed by two things: the delicious food and the warm hospitality of the locals. Our host mom, Maria, treated us to a delightful breakfast dish called Patacones in the morning. Then for lunch, I savored multiple dishes, including tenderloin with cheese, accompanied by refreshing Horchata. Coming from the U.S., I was unsure about adapting to Costa Rican cuisine, but both meals today exceeded my expectations and were absolutely delicious! The experience has opened my eyes to the rich flavors of Costa Rica, and I can’t wait to explore more unique foods during our stay.

I was also very surprised with how friendly the locals are! While in some countries around the world tourists are scoffed at, here in Costa Rica it seems they are treated very well. Many people walked past yelling “pura vida!”, and when we were playing soccer in the park locals would join in and play for a bit. It is a really great feeling to be welcomed by the locals, and something I was not expecting!
