Day 1: First Day in Augsburg

After a long few days of staying in Nordenberg and traveling to Germany (with a layover in Chicago) we have finally landed in Augsburg. After getting settled, we took a walk into town and ate at a local bakery. It was cool to see some of the stores that were here in Germany (new and familiar).

After a quick break at the hotel, we then were about to get a tour of the Fuggerei from a very talented tour guide! It was interesting to hear about the history of the housing complex and its various changes throughout history. Part of that tour was to visit the bomb shelter that was there to protect the citizens. It was interesting to see the deep history that this area has- and the modern changes they are using to improve the area at the same time.

To close out the day after lots of travel (and a bit of rain!), we went to dinner with the students from the University of Augsburg. I was able to try Pork Schnitzel, which is something I have wanted to try for a long time. It was very flavorful and it was great speaking to the German students for a bit and learn more about them! After ending my night with some Gelato, we are finally headed to bed for the night. Overall, a jam-packed first day in Germany. I am really exited to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us.
