Day 2: University of Augsburg

Today was a jam-packed day. We started off at the University of Augsburg where we met up with the German exchange students and created a presentation on our automobile company. I had the opportunity to introduce myself to the German students and learn more about their education and culture. Since some of them will be coming to Pittsburgh next semester to study abroad I gave them recommendations on restaurants and entertainment in the Pittsburgh area.

I was surprised to find that there are about a dozen goats that occupy the University of Augsburg lawn space. The goats aid in keeping the air clean and the grass short. I didn’t know that a university could support such a project with goats so I was interested in learning. more about the project.

After we presented our 8-minute company presentations, we ate at the University of Augsburg dining hall. At first, I felt completely out of place as everyone around us spoke fluent German. The German students that we met during the presentations taught us how to order and sat with us in the dining hall. I was able to get to know everyone and the food was really good for a college dining hall. I noticed that after we finished eating the way that they discarded trash was efficient and environmentally conscious. They carefully made sure that all of our napkins were neatly placed in the trash bin and the plates were clear before going through the dish washer. Additionally, at the dining hall I tried a new type of soda called Spezie, a mix of Coca cola and Fanta.

A scavenger hunt was next on our agenda. We took a formal tour of the University with the German students that go there. We walked by the beautiful canal that runs through the city. The hunt ended by the stadium where the Augsburg team plays football.
