After the 12 hour delay, we finally arrived to Argentina. We were greeting by two IES coordiantors who were extremely kind and gave us cookies, which tasted amazing! When we arrived to the IES headquarters, one of the first meals had was choripan, a traditional Argentina BBQ staple which was really good as well. After our meal, I went to the hotel, unpacked and went to sleep.
This morning, first thing I did was go to Cafe Martinez and took coffee to go. The sizes were incredibly small which definitely is a culture shock. After that, I went to go exchange money at Berlin with a small group which was quick and easy and had opportunity o speak Spanish. Quickly after, I went to IES for a quick orientation on the safety precautions, places to visit, and things to do in Argentina.
The group and I went to Universidad Austral and met Dr. Gabriel Novick and he had a powerpoint which discussed the different sectors of the Argentina healthcare system. We also met the former Ministry of health who also spoke more on that sector and gave us more insight. It was so interesting learning about the benefits and challenges of their system in comparison to the United States.
One of my favorite parts of today was our tango class. Was I good? no! Did I know what I was doing? Absolutely not! It was really fun and cool to see how advanced and smooth the instructors were and they taught us about how they are clubs called Milagros which are only for dancing tango.
I went out with a few friends and we explored the streets of Buenos Aires. One of the streets had this strip of stores which all had no doors or just extremely open which was a weird but cool concept to see. The people were friendly and the hospitality of Argentina makes me want to visit a few more time after this trip. Can’t wait for the rest of these cool experiences!
