Arrival:
Hallo! We arrived at the Munich airport mid-morning and made our way through customs. The flight over was long but not horrible. On the flight over, I got to watch the sunrise through the plane window which was amazing to see. The sky started off in shades of pink and purple, turning into a sky of orange, yellow, and blue. It was incredible to watch the sunrise from above the clouds.

Fuggerei Tour
After we walked around the city for a bit, we went on a tour of the Fuggerei. This was especially interesting to me after learning they only pay 0.88 euros to stay in there. Being able to walk through what a typical home would look like was eye-opening as some of these homes would house a single person up to families of 8. All living in about the same sized houses and paying the same price. Additionally, seeing the different ways that these families adapted their living situations to conform to the demands of the weather was something we don’t see in the States.

In all, the day was long as we did a walking tour of the city, visited the Fuggerei, and had dinner with the University of Augsburg students. It was great getting to know them briefly, even in our exhausted state. My first meal in Germany, besides a pretzel with butter, was a Turkey Schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce and Swaibian noodles. Something I have never had before, but I loved my first day in Augsburg and I look forward to the rest of the trip!
