Camp Humpheries and Korea: Day 3

As the trip continues today we went to the largest US military base outside America and learned about things from leadership to tech and engineering. It was an early wake up call but since I am still getting used to the time difference it doesn’t bother me. After another great hotel breakfast it was off to camp Humpheries, a 90 minute bus ride away to the city pyeongtaek. As we traveled I just truly appreciated being able to see the great landscapes and architecture of Korea and felt gratitude for this experience. As we approached the military base it was pretty surreal seeing stuff you see in war movies such as battle helicopters and tanks. After settling in and getting a Q&A from a 3 star general we toured some of the engineering aspects of the base and vehicles all around Camp Humpheries. Battle tanks, bull dozers, and a vehicle that can make a bridge from itself were all explained to us by the impressive engineers residing in Camp Humpheries. For lunch the group got to eat in the cafeteria with the other soldiers and it was nice to experience and the food was great as it was a little taste of home right when I was missing some American food. To conclude our tour we took a guided bus ride tour of the millions of square feet of land inside the base and got to see where soldiers reside, the airfield and even the schools where children of soldiers at the base go. This experience was one of a kind and I am extremely grateful to the base and it’s personnel for letting us in on such an impressive operation. To conclude the night, my small group and I went for the best dinner we have had on the trip, recommended by our tour leader Kay, where we enjoyed dumplings and noodles and finished the night off with some Korean shaved ice. This trip has truly been incredible and I look forward to writing more tomorrow about our tour of Eaton and a K
