Day 3: Hoerbiger Visit & Alps

Starting off the day with a company visit to Hoerbiger where we were given two production tours of the factories: one for Piazo Chip and the other for automobile parts. We met two production managers and they taught us more about the company as well as how its products and services serve clients. Founded in 1894, this company operates in many different industries including automotive and healthcare.

I asked myself while we were given the tours “Could I see myself working here?” The answer is yes. Because of the company’s culture and tight-knit community, I would thrive here and would appreciate the benefits that come with the job. During the tour, we were shown an employee fitness center that is open to all. Additionally, our guide told us about employee-sponsored events such as weekly yoga, cycling, and ping pong sessions after the work day concludes. These programs are completely employee-run and allow workers to appreciate and experience each others’ unique talents and passions.

After lunch and two more presentations from Hoerbiger employees, we headed back on the bus to the Alps. We took a ski lift up to the top of the mountain. It was foggy and steep but I can only imagine what the mountains look like when it’s clear. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the top it started to rain and all we could see was fog. After venturing up the ski lift we spent an hour exploring the village of Oberammergau. We stopped at a Christmas ornament shop – all of the products were homemade and beautifully made. We ended the day back on the bus driving through the village streets and taking in the stunning Alps.
