Today was a packed day! We started off the morning attending a lecture at the Buenos Aires government building with Dr. Ferente where we discussed obras sociales and learned more about the public sectors, private sectors, and unions. I found it interesting how it may be unknown how many customers you have and all don’t have to be customers, but are expected to be budgeted for. This leads to challenges managing the system and difficulty budgeting since you do not necessarily know your clientele. After that, we headed over to Universidad Austral to hear more about pros and cons of the Argentine health care system and their impacts. I learned that every person who has a job in Argentina must be in a union and the main problems such as cost, transfer, and budget. Also that all healthcare in public sectors has low productivity compared to private sectors. This is my presentation so I enjoyed elaborating on what I had already learned from the initial project. After wrapping up lectures for the day, we had about an hour and go to try a new lunch restaurant which was amazing. For the afternoon, we took a bus tour all around various neighborhoods in Argentina. This was my favorite part of the trip thus far. I loved getting to experience the various neighborhoods and how they are all unique. I got postcards from an art table that I absolutely love and the artist added a drawing made out of my name on the back which was so cool. My friends and I got to take great pictures and it was truly so special to be able to explore the city. My favorite place that we visited was the Cathedral, which was stunning. All of the intricate details were so beautiful. I love that we did this tour early in the trip as I have a few places that I cannot wait to go back and explore. After our tour, we came back to the hotel to reflect on obras sociales and everything that we had learned for the day. We are going to a new bbq restaurant for dinner to try and getting ready for tomorrows lectures!
