An imPECCable time in Saigon

On day three in Saigon, we were granted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a private tour of one of Vietnam’s largest power producers. The company, PECC2, primarily focuses on renewable energy. In most nations worldwide, the main supplier of power is generated by coal firing, which is not sustainable and emits many harmful emissions into the atmosphere. PECC2 excels in renewable energy such as hydroelectric, solar, and wind power. These three main forms of power generate billions of kilowatt-hours of electricity for the entire country. We were first given an expansive overview of their operation and then escorted to their main terminal, where they control all of their operations across the country.

In our lecture earlier in the day at UEF, our guest speaker spoke about how Vietnam aims to become net neutral by 2050. This will involve billions of dollars and countless companies working toward this common goal. From what we saw today, it is clear that PECC2 is doing its part in achieving this goal by cutting down on gas power and moving to natural sources such as the sun, water, and wind. While yesterday was a great example of a specialized business, today was a great visual of a necessity business. Overall, today was an amazing experience for my cultural expansion as well as my professional development as a business major.
