The morning started with a short subway trip to the top English taekwondo studio in Seoul. I have never done martial arts and doing taekwondo in Seoul was quite the experience. We learned the forms for kicking, punching, and blocking. In addition to breaking boards, the teacher told us about the philosophy behind taekwondo, deepening our understanding of the class.
After the class, I had my favorite lunch of the trip so far. I had tteok-bokki and fried dumplings. I also find the water system in Korea very interesting. If you want water, you have to get a cup out of a sterilization chamber and get water from a fountain. Moreover, outside of city hall there were hundreds of beanbags on a massive patch of grass. The weather was beautiful and smooth jazz was playing around the beanbags. While I waited for the city hall tour, I did a virtual reality experience of a battle during the Japanese invasion of Joseon. The new and old city halls are beautiful. The new building is the most advanced and modern government building I have ever seen. There was greenery everywhere. An entire wall was full of vines, all the way up to 8 stories.
After the tour of city hall, we were assigned a scavenger hunt. Dr. Yun gave us a picture of a building with no description and we had to find it. It was not easy Navigating the 45-minute subway ride but the destination was worth it. The National Assembly building was massive. It had an ornate fountain in front and was on an enormous plot of grass that was perfectly kept. After we sent our picture proof to Dr. Yun, we took the long subway ride to our hotel. We then had a group dinner at Amiso. It was a pork hotpot dinner and was delicious.
