Today was a really fun day! W began with Dr. Daniel Ferrante who discussed the public sector of Buenos Airea nd Dr. Leverstein who discussed the unions. The unions are vital to the Buenos Aires health system. They are meant to provide protection and social benefits. Unions also serve as advocates for the workers and help fight against workplace discrimination or harassment . They also help to make sure workers are ensured of workers protection and don’t’ get dismissed from their positions . Some challenges that where discussed were that it can be a high cost. It has it’s challenges but it’s meant for the people to not be on their own and have more coverage.
Some challenges that were discussed could be the decline in membership rates and inflation is a huge issue as well.
We also went on a bus tour that took us to three beautiful neighborhoods. We saw the cathedral which was beautiful and the soldiers who marched in there. Also, I saw where the president work and it looked beautiful. In San Telmo, there were beautiful antique shops and cool restaurants which I am going back far. Lastly, my favorite neighborhood which was La Boca where they were so many street vendors and open markets which I adored. There were also many indigenous Hispanics and it was cool seeing them speak in another dialect. I met a street vendor who was from Colombia who explained how he goes around Latin America and travels which was so interesting. I learned so much about the different neighborhoods from the tour guide and I would love to visit all of these again!
