Training Mind and Body

Last night I slept like a log after the long day after the baseball game. I was refreshed to do today’s activities.  First, we went to practice some Taekwondo. It was an incredible experience because I always wanted to try some martial arts, but my parents never allowed it. It was fun to actually break the wooden boards that I see all over the internet. I thought it would have been harder, but the board was quite fragile. Something that I noticed in the Taekwondo studio was that their map of the world was centered on South Korea with North and South America on the right side. This is contrary to our normality, but it makes perfect sense. Either way, it’s the same because of the circular shape of the Earth.

Next, we went to the Seoul City Hall. Once arriving, we were given some free time to get some food. We got some spicy soup and noodles which were incredible. Afterward, we had some extra time, so we walked around the surrounding area before making our way into the City Hall. The thing that stuck with me the most was the stark contrast between Seoul before and after the Korean War. Incredibly, they have been able to repair the city into the powerhouse it is today in just 50 years. This progress is shown in the picture.

Lately, we were sent on a scavenger hunt by our professor. We were awarded a prize by sending a picture with our group in front of the location the fastest. However, we were doomed from the start. Our location was the Seoul National Assembly Building which was 40+ minutes away from our location. We learned how to use the subway without the help of our guides, but before we even got to transfer to the next subway line, the winning team sent a picture of their location. They got to their location in less than 10 minutes, so we stood no chance. Therefore, we chose to enjoy the ride. At the end of the day, it was worth it because the Assembly building was beautiful. After all of this, we got dinner and I decided to finish early tonight to get some rest after walking over 45 miles in the four days.
