Vietnam Day 4: VinaCapital Foundation

Today we traveled to a foundation called VinaCapital. They are invested in Vietnam’s new generations. Their moto is, “healthy kids, healthy mothers, healthy communities, healthy Vietnam”. VinaCapital has about 8 different programs that are tailored to making the lives of the Vietnamese better and safer. Outside of the large cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, a lot of citizens live in small villages in central Vietnam with no access to good healthcare or good education on health. VinaCapital has over 1,000 different locations to help the underprivileged children across the country. Vina will pay for thousands of heart surgeries and even offer scholarships to students to become high level doctors and physicians. That way they could possibly go back into the villages and help more youth and mothers.

VinaCapital is a NGO (nongovernment organization), so all the donations they receive goes straight to the foundation. And one really incredible aspect, is that 100% of the donations are used for the different programs, unlike some nonprofits in America. Realizing that the money goes straight to the kids is amazing and wholesome. I believe that American nonprofits, or other organizations, should adapt this idea. A percentage of the money does not need to go to the organization itself. However, this could be a problem that Vina faces in the future. If they don’t have enough donors than they cannot continue to run the foundation and thousands of families in Vietnam will not get the help they need and deserve.

VinaCapital is an amazing foundation with incredible morals. When I become financially stable I would definitely consider donating to their foundation. Seeing corporations like VinaCapital gives me so much hope for the future of Vietnam and the world. I really hope that the last few companies we see on this trip are similar to Vina, and benefit both their country and the world.
