Day 5 – More Sustainability!

Today, for our site visit we went to GreenViet, a green building consulting company that is one of the first in Vietnam to focus on sustainable construction and green building. LEED standards and this certification provide a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social, and governance benefits. It was very interesting to me how many employees took their shoes off while working and they had to change into slippers to enter the building. Also, it was very cool to see how many other US schools that GreenViet has worked with including Villanova, Penn State, and Pepperdine.

After our site visit, we had a Vietnamese history and culture lesson where we were given scarves that many Vietnamese people wear in the Mekong Delta region to shield themselves from the sun. We learned about the religious makeup of the country, the different ethnic groups, and popular traditions in Vietnam. We also had our last language class in which we gave presentations demonstrating all we learned.

Lastly, we went on a waterbus tour of HCMC with the UEF students which was very beautiful and relaxing. It was nice to end such a busy day with a scenic tour of the city!
