Another packed day in the books as I finally sit down to journal the tour of Yonsei University. Today we got to sleep in a bit and I didn’t really take advantage of it as I still wake up pretty early getting used to the time zone difference so I hit the gym instead. After the gym and breakfast, we started off on the subway to Yonsei University, 45 minutes and 3 transfers later we arrived at the most beautiful and green college campus I have seen. To start off we had some free time to explore so my group and I hit up the gift shop and I grabbed some souvenirs for my family. After that, we began a series of tours that lasted from 10 AM to 6 PM with only a lunch break in between. The first tour was just a general overview of the school and its history by Professor Lee which helped set an educational foundation for future tours. After that we grabbed a quick lunch at the dining hall which was way better than our dining hall at Pitt, offering more options and better quality. Next, we took a quick tour of the business building and learned more about student life by interacting with current students. Then we toured the mass of engineering buildings which took over three hours and we learned about a start-up company in one of the buildings that are working to build human organs out of stem cells. Overall the tours were the best things I learned about the tech in engineering and bioengineering the business strategies behind Korean universities and how they market to local students. The visit was very beneficial in learning about Korean college culture, academics, business, and engineering. Now I will rest up and look forward to journaling tomorrow about our trip to the DMZ.
