Today we visited Yonsei University, one of the top universities in South Korea and in the world. I got so many souvenirs.
I started the day at 7 in the morning. I went to the money exchange near our hotel since I was running out of won. I then got breakfast from the hotel. After that we left and took the subway to Yonsei. We were then given some time and I went to the bookstore, and I bought a Leatherman jacket and a hat for my dad. I then reconvened with the whole group and we took a short tour of the university.
They then gave us lunch at one of the cafeterias on campus. I got the kimchi stir fried pork with tofu and rice. The food was good. I also got some miso soup and more kimchi. After lunch I went to the other bookstore and got more souvenirs. I bought two bags for my jacket, some stickers for my dad, and some socks. I needed the socks because my feet were killing me, I wore flats today that I didn’t break in.
After lunch we went on another tour around the campus with an official tour guide. They told us about the history of the Yonsei area. The founder of the university had 5 degrees. There was a statue of him in front of the library. The one statue of Underwood was apparently torn down twice. Once it was torn down by the Japanese government to be made into weapons, and then it was torn down a second time during the Korean War. Some of the buildings were 100 years old.
After that tour we sat down and heard about the university from the development manager and one of the students about life at Yonsei. We then took a tour of the engineering buildings. We got to see some of the classrooms that electrical engineering students use. We then learned about a start up at the university and one of the research programs. The start up was called cellArtgen. They are working on growing organoids to be used to grow new organs or heal them. The biomedical research labs were researching the brain and how the cerebrum transmits signals.
