Day 5 – Yonsei (Not Yoncé)

Today was a much later start, 9:15 AM. I took the liberty to sleep in just a bit which ended in me rushing my breakfast. I know, poor decision making. When I did catch up with the group, we used the subway again to travel to the one and only Yonsei University. It’s one of the best universities in Korea, and the absolute best in my heart. We received an introductory tour of the campus where I asked plenty of questions. The student life here seemed wonderful yet different and I started seriously considering transferring!

However, international student acceptances are basically slim to none. And most of their international students are Russian.

We were introduced to two seniors at the University. Domino and Lily. When I went to sit down and eat, I happened to sit with a group of students talking to Domino and we had the wonderful opportunity of comparing our student lives. Honestly, their lives are pretty similar to ours, except a lot of the media gets translated. However, we did learn that Greek Life isn’t really a thing in Korea. Domino looked very confused when I asked him about it. I also learned that he is an engineering senior and we talked a bit about how he got his internships and I will definitely be using that advice for my own search.

Eventually our free time did end and we got to tour basically every inch of Yonsei. The business school, the biotech building, the engineering halls, etc. We received several presentations discussing the student life of Korean universities and it all just seemed so lively. They have KPOP performances, pep rallies, large showcases, a freshman dorm, etc.

After the tours, we attended a rotational talk about the Cheong lab. One part, we toured the CellArtgen Yonsei startup, the second part we got a look into a rat lab.

During my free time, I visited Hongdae and really felt like I was meshing in Korea.
