We started off the day at 9am with a walking tour everywhere around the city. We got to see many historical landmarks, learn the history, and explore the streets of Buenos Aires. It was colder than I expected walking around the city, but nonetheless, still a great tour and guide. My favorite was the cathedral that we were able to walk in which was stunning as they were getting ready to hold mass. One of our destinations was the cemetery, which was like nothing I’ve seen before. The cemetery had beautiful, honorary graves in which many stood tall and were gated with doors allowing you to see inside. I could not believe how they were organized into streets and how many sites there were for one cemetery. I could have easily gotten lost. I have never seen such beautiful and intricately detailed sites. After the cemetery, we had lunch at an amazing Italian restaurant which was attached to the museum we were touring, Museo Evita. We learned a lot about Eva Perón and Peronism. We got to walk through Eva’s life story throughout the museum, where she started as an actor before meeting her husband, Juan Perón. Juan Perón served as the 35th President of Argentina and was eventually overthrown. Peronism stands upon Economic Independence, Social Justice, and Political Sovereignty. Peronism aimed to expand the health systems and prioritized the work class and their benefits. It was interesting learning about her life experientially by touring the museum and all that it has to offer. After the museum, our day was complete and we headed back to the hotel. Everyone was exhausted by this point, so we all slept and then decided to try an interesting place called “La Mala” for dinner. I found it interesting how when we were seated outside, they came to our table and gave us blankets, which is something I have never had happen. The food was really good and it was nice to be able to explore the new part of Buenos Aires. Tomorrow is a packed day with multiple lectures, hospital visits, and a museum tour!
