Korea: Hiking and Cooking

Our hike today was probably the best I will ever have. Yes, it was quite the dangerous trek, and a few of us were not as lucky in placing our steps, but overall I feel like it was a positive experience for everyone. It began with us making our way along the river on the mountain, which would basically follow us all the way to the temple on the top which was our final destination. I don’t know the time it took specifically to actually reach it, but I would say it was around an hour, possibly an hour and a half.

The temple itself was very beautiful as it overlooked most of the other mountains in the area as well. The cover photo for this blog is just one of the many pictures I was able to take during our hike. There were also people at the shrines who offered different things. One person gave a few of us some rice ball sort of food which was interesting to eat.

There was an additional 108 steps to take up to see a Buddha statue carved into the rock on the mountain. We didn’t spend too much time up there, but it was fun while it lasted. Getting down was a much easier journey as we just took the easy way out and followed the road down to the bottom.

After a few hours of rest at the hotel, we departed to go to a cooking class. It was taught by a woman who has worked on many Korean dramas. The class started with a demonstration which was really interesting as we could see her skills in action. Then, it was our turn. Me and my teammate made our version of Bibimbap which they thought was… interesting. We thought it tasted good though.

That’s it for today. Tomorrow we have more site visits so that should be sure to have lots of content to write about.
