Visiting Yonsei University

Today, we spent the entire day at Yonsei University. When we arrived, we had time to explore the campus. My first impression was that it was beautiful. The academic buildings looked modern and had lots of windows. However, my favorite building was the Ivy Building. It was an old-fashioned stone building covered top to bottom with ivy. The building is a historic landmark in Korea, which means Yonsei cannot alter it. Additionally, unlike PITT, the campus had tons of greenery.

Once our free time was up, we began a campus tour. The group went to different buildings like the student union, cafeterias, and the main quad. Even though the visit was primarily engineering-based, they also showed us the Business building. The inside of the building looked very nice, as there were lots of places to sit and had windows overlooking a forest. My favorite place during the tour was the Open-air Theater. It is an open arena made out of rock. The coolest part is when you stand in the middle, everyone in the theater can hear you. The primary use of the space is to host concerts.

After the tour, the group went for lunch. No disrespect to the Eatery, but the food was a thousand times better. When entering, we got a choice between four options. The choices were Spicy Beef soup, stir-fried pork, beef brisket, and pork cuttlefish. I choose the spicy beef soup. It was the best cafeteria food I have had in a long time. I think what I liked the best were the options because the Eatery always has the same basic choices.

After lunch, we went to tour the engineering buildings and labs.  I was a little lost at times, as I am a business major. However, it was interesting to learn about the different sides of engineering. The side that we mainly learned about today was biomedical engineering. When touring this building, we saw ongoing experiments like using mice to track sleep cycles.

After the visit, we were allowed to explore an area around the college. However, due to wearing the wrong shoes and exhaustion, I decided to go to the hotel area. A few of my group members and I decided to get some street food. I ended up getting sweet and sour chicken. After that, I went to bed because of the early trip to the DMZ tomorrow.
